Caithness Bed and Breakfast

Caithness Bed and Breakfast

A few months ago we had friends come to visit us in Caithness and after looking for a bed and breakfast we decided to have them stay at the excellent Loch Watten House. We can certainly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone looking for a warm and welcoming b&b in the North of Scotland. We also have featured this holiday accommodation on our new website - Caithness Bed and Breakfast.

Dunnet Head Fire Damaged SSSI

Dunnet Head April Fire Damaged Site of Special Scientific Interest

In April nearly everyone in the area around Thurso, Scrabster and the far north of Scotland area of Caithness noticed a huge fire over Dunnet Head, the area that is the furthest north on the UK mainland. The smoke from the fire literally covered the sea. It was a wonderful clear sunny day yet you could not see the islands of Orkney due to the smoke from this fire. It has turned out that the fire damaged a large area that is very important for wildlife and nature conservation.

The area around Dunnet Head is spectacular and is home to many species of bird, insects and animals and it is terrible that this area has been damaged.

"A fire at Britain's most northerly point damaged more than a quarter of an important wildlife sanctuary, it has emerged." Read the article on the BBC website.

Surf Scotland

Surf Scotland

Scotland is the destination for people who love the outdoors and appreciate a wilder side of living - as well as beautiful scenery and wildlife. Scotland is also the destination for many surfers and the north of Scotland around Scrabster with its wild waves is ideal for surfers of all levels.

The beaches around Caithness and Sutherland often have waves that make surfing great fun and Bettyhill in Sutherland, a short distance from Thurso is one of the best places to enjoy this sport.

Sutherland Scotland for Surfing

The beach is often visited by surfers and others who love the outdoor life.

Picture of beach at Bettyhill in the winter. During the summer the days in the Scottish Highlands are long and it only gets dark for a few hours each night, it only gets dark in June after 11 pm. Scotland is the perfect holiday destination and the north of Scotland is full of opportunities to enjoy the oudoor life, camping, hosteling, staying in a self catering cottage, bed and breakfast or a hotel, the choice is yours and sometimes a combination of holiday accommodation is the way to go (especially when it rains and you are out camping). The thing to remember is that certain accommodation is limited so you should book early especially for the months of June to August.
